The new album, OLD FREIGHT

"What seems like a simple formula: acoustic guitar picking, sincere vocals, thoughtful lyrics and professional production is in fact nearly impossible.  So when someone does it right and in this case for his debut record it’s a moment to celebrate." Songs:Illinois

Opening for Robbie Fulks, May 24 at Motorco

I am excited to open up for Robbie Folks at Motorco Music Hall (Durham, NC) on Thursday, May 24! Robbie Fulks is a top notch songwriter and one hell of a guitar picker. His most recent release, 2017’s Upland Stories, earned year’s-best recognition from NPR and Rolling Stone among many others, as well as two Grammy nominations, for folk album and American roots song (“Alabama At Night”). My personal favorite off the release is the track "Fare Thee Well, Carolina Gals", with references to local favorites like Franklin Street in Chapel Hill and Northgate Mall in Durham.

Telluride Troubadour contest honorable mention

While not selected as a finalist for the renown Telluride Troubadour songwriter contest, I am delighted to have been noted as an honorable mention. It is a nationally recognized competition with past winners including Gregory Alan Isakov (2007) and Anna Tivel (2016), to name just a couple. Rob Nance, a stellar musician and songwriter from here in Durham, will be attending this year as a finalist. A very cool contest indeed from the folks at Planet Bluegrass!

I submitted the songs Childhood Ghosts and I Heart Mountains to the contest. You can give them a listen on Spotify:

#10 album & two top 5 songs in the Folk DJ charts

I am pumped to share that Old Freight is #10 in the Folk DJ charts for March, with two songs (Old Freight and Bowling Green) in the top 5 songs! This means the songs and album were among the top played by folk radio DJs in March. This list is based on 14,096 plays from 529 playlists from 137 Folk DJs across the country. A big thanks to Kari Estrin for her work getting it there.
